Why you might need a manual reading
You may need to submit a manual water meter reading when you are moving into a new home, moving out of your current property, or if you receive a service tag at your door asking for a verification. You might also need to provide a reading if your bill seems unusually high and you want to check for a possible leak before calling Reporting a water leak.
How to submit your reading
We accept manual readings through the Service Wrenford Online portal, by email, or by phone. Please use the same method for all your utility requests to keep your account history clear.
Online service request
Log in to the Service Wrenford Online portal and select the Water Meter Reading Request form. Fill in every required field, attach a clear photo of your meter face, and submit the form. You will receive an automated confirmation email. Please ensure any photo you upload is under 10 megabytes.
Email or phone
If you cannot upload a photo, write down the numbers on your meter. Email your details to [email protected] with the subject line Water Meter Reading — [Your Account Number]. You can also call our main line at 519-555-0100 and choose the option for residential water billing.
What you need to provide
- Your full legal name
- Your complete service address
- Your 12-digit water account number
- The exact date of the reading
- The meter reading itself, or a photo of the meter face
- A contact phone number and the best time to reach you
How to read your meter
Your water meter is located inside your home, usually in the basement or a utility room near the front wall where the water service enters. You will need to lift the cover to see the dial or digital screen. For step-by-step instructions on how to read different meter models, see How to read your water meter.
If your meter is locked behind a gate or inside a room you cannot access, please call us. We can schedule a time for a meter reader to visit your home. Please note that readings submitted here are for verification only. They do not replace the City's automated reading schedule. If you do not provide a reading when asked, your next bill may be based on an estimated usage.
What happens next
The Water Billing team reviews all submissions within 2 business days. If you are submitting a reading for a move-in or move-out, your account will be updated and a final or opening bill will be generated. You can track your account status at any time by visiting Water account inquiries.
