What counts as a traffic signal problem
Traffic signals keep drivers and pedestrians safe at busy intersections. Report a problem if a light is completely dark, flickering, stuck on one colour, or if the timing feels unsafe. You can also report a damaged pole, a missing cover, a broken pedestrian push-button, or a signal that is out of alignment.
How to report it
The fastest way to report a malfunction is through the Service Wrenford Online portal. You can upload a photo of the intersection and mark the location on the map. If you need to speak to someone, call Service Wrenford 311 from inside the city, or 519-555-0100 from outside. Our Roads & Winter Maintenance crew receives your report right away.
What happens next
After you submit a report, a traffic signal technician will visit the intersection to check the hardware and wiring. Most electrical faults are fixed within two to three business days. If the issue is a timing problem, the crew will run a diagnostic and adjust the cycle. We will email you or text you once the repair is complete.
Safety while waiting for a repair
If a traffic light is completely out, treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Slow down, make eye contact with other drivers, and go only when it is clearly safe. Do not block the intersection if the light is stuck green. During heavy snow or rain, visibility can be low. If a signal is hard to see because of ice or debris, report it so we can clear the lens or adjust the timing. If a pole is leaning or sparking, stay away and call 911 immediately if it is an active emergency, or report it as a traffic signal problem if it is safe to do so.
Requesting a new signal
If an intersection does not have a traffic light and you feel one is needed, you can request a study. The Traffic Signal Assessment Team reviews every request based on traffic volume, crash history, and pedestrian activity. The Highway Traffic Act sets the rules for when the City can install a traffic signal. This review takes up to 45 business days. If the study supports a new signal, the City will cover the cost. If it does not, the team will explain why and suggest alternatives, like a stop sign or a pedestrian crossover.
