Know where and when you can park

Parking in Wrenford helps keep traffic moving and people safe. The Traffic and Parking By-law outlines how we manage parking on city streets. Follow the signs and rules below to avoid tickets and keep the roads clear for everyone.

No stopping versus no parking

Signs on the street tell you exactly what you can and cannot do. Here is the difference:

  • No stopping: Your vehicle must not stop here for any reason. This includes dropping off or picking up passengers. These zones are used for bus stops, fire lanes, and to keep sightlines clear at intersections.
  • No parking: You may stop briefly to load or unload passengers or materials, usually for up to five minutes. You cannot park and wait.

Restricted areas

Some areas of the street are restricted at all times to protect public safety.

Fire hydrants

Your vehicle must be at least six metres (20 feet) from the centre of a fire hydrant. Parking too close can delay the Fire Department when every second counts.

Bus stops

Do not stop or park in signed bus stop zones. These spaces are required for transit buses to safely pick up and drop off passengers.

School zones

Children's safety comes first. Do not park in no parking or no stopping zones near schools, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. Keep crosswalks and sightlines clear for drivers and students.

Driveways and intersections

Keep driveways and intersections clear so drivers can see where they are going.

  • Driveways: Park at least six metres (20 feet) from a driveway.
  • Intersections: Park at least 30 feet from an intersection unless there is a marked parking stall.

Alleys

Do not park within three metres of an alley intersection. Vehicles cannot park in alleys unless they are actively loading or unloading and are not blocking traffic.

Bus lanes

Bus lanes are for Wrenford Transit buses and emergency vehicles only during posted hours. Do not drive or park in a bus lane unless you are turning right at the next intersection or driveway.

General parking rules

  • Curb distance: Park your vehicle within 60 cm (two feet) of the curb. This protects your vehicle and makes the road safer for others.
  • Oversized vehicles: Vehicles longer than six metres or weighing more than 2,725 kilograms can park on a city street for a maximum of two hours. This does not apply to recreational vehicles (RVs) or City vehicles.
  • Accessible parking: Only vehicles with a valid provincial accessibility parking placard may use accessible parking spaces. Illegally parking in these spots denies access to those who need them.
  • Street parking guide: Use the Street Parking Guide to see a map of all no stopping and no parking zones in your neighbourhood.
