Pay your parking ticket
You can pay a parking ticket issued under the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 online, by phone, or in person. If you pay within 15 days of the ticket date, you receive a discount. If you do not pay within 30 days, a $25.00 collection fee is added to the original fine. Paying early helps you avoid extra costs and keeps your record clear.
To pay in person, visit Provincial Offences Court at 120 Church Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A4. You can also mail your payment with the reply portion of the ticket. Do not send cash by mail. If you pay by mail, allow extra time for delivery.
Dispute your ticket
If you believe the ticket was issued in error, you have 15 days to dispute it. You must follow the Summary Offences Procedure Act, 1990 to challenge a parking violation in court. Disputing a ticket is free, but you must pay the full fine amount upfront to hold the money in trust while the court reviews your case.
Steps to dispute
- Fill out the "Notice of Dispute" section on your ticket.
- Pay the full fine amount to hold the money in trust while the court reviews your case.
- Return the form to Provincial Offences Court by mail or in person.
- Attend your scheduled court date. Provincial Offences Court is open Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 120 Church Street.
You can change your plea to "guilty" at any time before your trial. If you do so, you will pay the fine listed on the ticket and the court process ends.
What happens at court
A Justice of the Peace will hear your case. You will have the chance to present your evidence and call witnesses. The City of Wrenford will also present its case. Bring any photos, maps, or notes that support your story. If the Justice of the Peace finds you not guilty, your trust deposit will be returned. If you are found guilty, the deposit will be used to pay the fine.
If you do not pay or appear
If you do not pay your ticket or show up for your court date, a default conviction will be entered against you. The court will mail you a notice with a new payment deadline. If you still do not pay, a late fee of 50% is added to the fine. Unpaid fines may be sent to a collection agency, and the City may withhold your vehicle registration. A conviction can also affect your insurance rates.
