What is electronic waste?
Electronic waste, or e-waste, includes any device that plugs into a wall or runs on a battery. Recycling these items keeps harmful materials out of landfills and recovers valuable metals like copper and gold. In Ontario, electronics recycling is funded by producers, so the service is free for Wrenford residents.
What is accepted
Bring the following items to the drop-off depot:
- Televisions and computer monitors (CRT, LCD, and LED)
- Desktop and laptop computers
- Printers, scanners, and peripherals (keyboards, mice, speakers)
- Audio and video equipment (stereos, game consoles, DVD players)
- Small kitchen and household appliances (coffee makers, toasters, vacuums)
- Power tools and air tools
- Solar panels
What is not accepted
Do not bring the following to the electronics drop-off:
- Batteries and cell phones: Take these to participating retailers or the Household hazardous waste disposal program.
- Large appliances (fridges, washers): These require a separate curbside pickup or facility visit. See the Garbage and recycling collection schedule.
- Household hazardous waste: Paints, solvents, and chemicals go to the Household hazardous waste disposal program.
Protect your personal information
Before you drop off any device with a screen or storage, you are responsible for removing your personal data. Recycling facilities do not wipe devices. We recommend using free data removal software to erase hard drives, taking out SIM and SD cards from phones, and signing out of all cloud accounts. If you are unsure how to erase a device, a local computer shop can help for a small fee.
Where and when to drop off
Electronic waste is accepted year-round at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility. There is no charge for residents to drop off e-waste. You will need to weigh the items upon arrival. The facility accepts one load per vehicle at a time for sorting purposes.
