What council committees do

Council committees help the city make decisions by looking into specific topics in detail. They are made up of council members and sometimes residents. Committees recommend actions to City Council, which makes the final decision.

Committee meetings are open to the public. You can attend in person, watch the livestream, or speak on agenda items.

Standing committees

Standing committees meet on a regular schedule to handle ongoing city business. The main standing committees include:

  • Planning and Environment Committee: Meets the first Tuesday of every month. This committee reviews planning, zoning, and environmental matters.
  • Affordable Housing Strategy Committee: Meets the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. This committee reviews housing needs and recommends policy changes.
  • Civic Asset Naming Committee: Meets the second Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. This committee advises Council on naming streets, parks, and facilities.

Advisory and task force committees

Advisory and task force committees focus on specific areas or temporary projects. They report their findings back to Council or a specific standing committee.

  • Policing committee: Advises Council on matters related to the Wrenford Police Service.
  • Public art committee: Advises on the placement of public art and manages the City's percentage-for-art program.
  • Regional collaboration committee: Works with neighbouring municipalities on shared services and regional planning.
  • Community advisory committees: Provide local input on neighbourhood issues and city programs.
