Why join a committee?

Wrenford's committees and boards give residents a direct voice in how the city runs. You will help shape policies, review plans, and advise the mayor and council on issues that matter to you. Whether you are an expert in a field or just want to give back, there is a place for you.

Committees and boards

Wrenford has several arm's-length and advisory groups. You can apply to serve on one or more. Common committees include:

  • Community Advisory Committees: Focused on specific neighbourhoods or themes like seniors, youth, or accessibility.
  • Wrenford Police Service Board: Governs the police service and sets policies under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019.
  • Wrenford Public Library Board: Manages library policy, budgets, and services independently from the City.
  • Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority: Issues permits and manages shoreline and floodplain policies along the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek.
  • Tamsin Valley Public Health Board: Oversees immunization, food safety, and public health initiatives.

See the full list of active committees and their terms of reference.

Who can apply

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Live, work, or own property in Wrenford.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Councillors, City staff, and political candidates cannot apply to the same committee they are overseeing or working for. If you are a candidate in the 2026 municipal election, you must wait until your term begins or you are no longer running.

How to apply

Applications are open now. Please follow these steps:

  1. Download the Committee Volunteer Application form.
  2. Fill in your contact details and list your first and second committee choices.
  3. Write a statement of interest. Tell us what skills, education, or life experience you bring. Explain why you want to serve.
  4. Submit the form by email to City Clerk's Office email or mail it to City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1.

There is no fee to apply. You can apply to multiple committees, but we recommend focusing on two to ensure a strong application.

What to expect

Once the application period closes, the City Manager reviews all submissions against the required competencies. Shortlisted candidates may be asked for an interview or a reference check. Final appointments are made by Council or the relevant board and announced in the Public Notices section.

Most meetings happen in the evening, usually on weekday nights. Expect to attend four to six meetings a year, plus occasional training or site visits. Travel and parking reimbursements are available for members who need them. If you require accommodations like sign language interpretation or large-print materials, please let us know when you apply.

Code of conduct and training

All members must follow the Code of Conduct for Appointed Members policy. This covers conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and respectful behaviour. New members receive an orientation packet and are paired with a staff liaison to help navigate city procedures.
