Why volunteer on a committee?
Wrenford relies on community members to share their ideas and help guide city decisions. Advisory committees give residents a direct voice in areas they care about. Whether you are an expert in a field or just want to give back, your perspective helps the City plan for the future.
How to apply
- Download the Committee Volunteer Application form or fill it out online.
- Choose your first and second choice committees. You can list up to three preferences.
- Submit your application to the City Clerk's Office by email at [email protected] or by mail to P.O. Box 1234, Station Main, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1.
- There is no fee to apply.
Applications are reviewed by the City Manager. The City Manager screens submissions and makes recommendations to Council. Council votes on appointments at a regular meeting. You will be notified of the result within four weeks.
What to expect
Most committee meetings are held in the evening to fit around work and family schedules. Meetings usually take place on weekday evenings, often the second or fourth Tuesday of the month. Some committees meet more frequently, while others only meet when needed.
Term lengths vary by committee. Most citizen members serve a two-year term, with the option for one reappointment. Council representatives serve for the duration of their elected term.
You will receive a welcome package that includes the committee's terms of reference, meeting schedules, and a list of current members. Staff from the relevant department will act as a liaison to help you prepare agendas and access research materials.
Supports for participation
The City wants every resident who wants to serve to be able to do so. We provide supports to help members participate fully, including:
- Accessible meeting rooms and virtual attendance options
- Advance notice of meeting dates and agenda materials
- Interpreter services for meetings and official correspondence
- Transportation reimbursement for members who qualify
- Honoraria for certain board and commission roles where legislation allows
If you need an accommodation to attend a meeting or review documents, please let us know at least two weeks in advance. You can contact the Accessibility Coordinator at 519-555-0142 or email [email protected].
