Reports and decisions

Water main flushing program

City Manager Robert Eng presented a report on the upcoming water main flushing schedule. The City will begin flushing main lines in the south end of Wrenford today, Monday, March 23, and continue through May. This routine maintenance clears sediment from the pipes and keeps your tap water fresh and safe. Residents in the affected areas may notice temporary changes in water pressure or colour. The City asks that you run cold water taps for a few minutes if you see discolouration. Carried.

Northgate Aquatic Centre opening

Recreation Programs Coordinator Caroline Dubé gave an update on the 2026 aquatic season. The City announced that the Northgate Aquatic Centre will open for the season on Saturday, June 27. The facility offers a 50-metre pool, a dive tank, and a waterslide. Registration for summer programs opens the first Monday of March, and early-bird registration for the aquatic centres begins in April. Carried.

Zoning amendment for 42 Mercer Street

Senior Planner Elena Petrova reviewed a proposal to update the zoning for a property at 42 Mercer Street. The amendment allows for a mixed-use building that combines ground-floor retail with residential units above, supporting the downtown revitalization goals in the Official Plan. Council reviewed the site plan and approved the zoning change to encourage local business growth. Carried.

Traffic and parking update

Roads Superintendent James Whitford presented a report on traffic calming measures. Council reviewed the proposed speed limit adjustments on Ambrel Lake Road to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians near the park. The changes align with the City's vision for slower, safer neighbourhood streets. Carried.
