Council meeting, February 26, 2024
Attendance
Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price chaired the meeting. Present were Councillors Marcus Lindqvist (Ward 1), Priya Raman (Ward 2), Tom Beaudry (Ward 3), Grace Whitlock (Ward 4), Arjun Sidhu (Ward 5), and Helen Marchetti (Ward 6). City Manager Robert Eng and City Clerk Nadia Kowalczyk attended.
Delegations
A representative from the Downtown Wrenford Business Improvement Area spoke about winter street safety. They asked for more snow removal priority on the main commercial corridors to keep shoppers and pedestrians safe. The Mayor thanked the group and noted that the City is reviewing winter maintenance routes to improve clearance times.
Reports and decisions
- Winter Road Safety Campaign: The City announced a new safety campaign ahead of the Wrenford Ice Days. Council directed staff to increase signage and public reminders about winter vehicle preparation and protecting outdoor water lines. Carried.
- 2024 Property Tax Notices: Council confirmed that annual property tax notices will be mailed to residents starting March 1. Staff will continue to offer pre-authorized payment and instalment plans to help residents manage their bills. Carried.
- Rezoning of 14 Mercer Street: Council reviewed the development application for the property at 14 Mercer Street. After reviewing the planning report, Council approved the zoning amendment to allow the proposed mixed-use project to move forward. Carried (7-0).
- Temporary Parking Restrictions on Concession 4 Road: To allow utility crews to work safely on Concession 4 Road, Council authorized temporary parking restrictions along the affected blocks. Signs and barriers will be installed before work begins. Carried (7-0).
- Confirmation of Proceedings: Council reviewed and confirmed the minutes and actions from previous meetings to ensure all records are accurate. Carried (7-0).
By-laws
The following by-laws were passed:
- By-law 2024-026: A by-law to amend Zoning By-law 2016-040 (rezoning of 14 Mercer Street)
- By-law 2024-029: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (temporary parking restrictions on Concession 4 Road)
- By-law 2024-031: a by-law to confirm the proceedings of this meeting
