What the committee does
The Policing committee connects City Council with the Wrenford Police Service Board and the Chief of Police. Your local committee reviews the annual policing budget and the long-term strategic plan to make sure police services match what residents need. It also oversees the Community safety investment framework and receives regular updates from the Wrenford Police Service Board about crime trends, community outreach, and officer training. If you have concerns about neighbourhood safety, this is the place to bring them up with your elected officials.
How to get involved
You do not need to be a resident to attend, but only residents may speak during the public comment period. You can watch the meeting online, submit a written brief in advance, or sign up to speak for up to three minutes. If you want to join the committee as a citizen member, visit the Apply to serve on a committee page. Applications are accepted twice a year, and Council reviews all submissions at its next regular meeting.
Committee membership
The committee is made up of three City Councillors appointed by Council, four citizen members with experience in public safety, social services, or community advocacy, and one representative from the Wrenford Police Service Board. Citizen members serve a two-year term and may be reappointed once. The committee works closely with the Community safety investment framework to direct funding toward local crime prevention and emergency response initiatives.
Meeting schedule
Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall. The sessions are open to the public and livestreamed on the City's YouTube channel. Agendas and minutes are posted online by 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before each meeting. You can also view past View committee meeting agendas to see what was discussed in previous sessions.
