Find the business licence you need
If you operate a business in Wrenford, or bring services into the city from outside, you need a business licence. A licence makes sure your business follows our by-laws and keeps our community safe. You must renew your licence every year by December 31.
Some businesses need extra permits or inspections from other levels of government. Check the list of licences that do not need a municipal approval to see if your business falls into that category.
Choose your licence type
Your licence type depends on where your business is based.
- Resident business licence — for businesses based at a residential or commercial address inside Wrenford city limits.
- Commercial or industrial business licence — for businesses operating from a zoned commercial or industrial space in Wrenford.
- Non-resident business licence — for businesses based outside Wrenford that come into the city to provide goods or services.
Special business categories
Certain businesses face extra rules because of safety, health, or neighbourhood impact. You will need a specific licence for these activities:
- Home-based business licence — for commercial work done from your home. You must stay within space, customer, and employee limits set out in the home-based business guidelines.
- Short-term rental business licence — for properties rented out for short stays. Learn more about short-term rental licensing.
- Food vending permit — for mobile vendors and food trucks operating in the downtown core or at markets.
- Beauty and body services licence — for salons, spas, and independent practitioners. Requires an annual compliance check.
- Bed and breakfast licence — for homes offering overnight lodging to guests.
- Vehicles for hire and taxi licences — for drivers and companies transporting people or goods for a fee.
- Residential rental property licence — for landlords renting out units. Choose the licence that matches your occupancy length and whether you live on site.
- Clothing donation bin licence — for placing collection bins on private or public property.
Fee schedule
Fees are set out in the Business licence fees and rates. All annual licences expire on December 31. A one-time application fee applies to new accounts.

| commercial or industrial business licence | $250.00 |
| non-resident business licence | $475.00 |

If you start your business after January 1, your annual fee is prorated monthly. Late payments after December 31 carry a 10 per cent penalty.
How to apply
Apply online through the Wrenford Business Portal for the fastest service. You can also pick up an application at the Service Wrenford counter in City Hall.
Before you sign a lease or buy a property, check the zoning. Use the zoning map to make sure your business is allowed at that address. If you plan to renovate the space, you may need a building permit or a change-of-use development permit. Our planning staff can review your site during a pre-consultation meeting.
