Short-term rental licensing

Find out who needs a short-term rental business licence, the fees, and how to apply for a principal or secondary property in Wrenford.

Who needs a licence

If you offer a room, a secondary suite, or your entire home for rent for a period of less than 30 days, you must have a Short-term rental business licence. This applies to listings on online platforms and direct rentals.

Licence categories and fees

Licences are valid for one year from the date of issue and must be renewed annually.

  • Principal residence licence: $100.00 per year. This is for your main home where you live and conduct your daily affairs.
  • Secondary property licence: $300.00 per year. This is for a rental property that is not your principal residence.

Current application status

Due to high demand for long-term housing, the City is currently not accepting new applications for secondary property licences. You can still renew existing secondary licences and apply for new principal residence licences.

Requirements

All short-term rental operators must follow these rules:

  • Display your licence number on all advertisements and online listings.
  • Install interconnected smoke alarms on every floor and in every bedroom.
  • Meet all fire safety standards, including carbon monoxide detectors where required. Contact Fire Rescue for advice.
  • Comply with all noise and parking by-laws.

How to apply

Apply online through the Wrenford eLicence Portal. Apply for a business licence to get started. Applications are processed within three business days.
