Why environmental considerations matter
When you bid on a construction project for the City of Wrenford, you agree to protect our air, water, and soil. The City integrates environmental sustainability into every step of its procurement process. You will follow the Sustainable Procurement Policy and the Supplier Code of Conduct for all goods, services, and construction contracts.
Pre-qualification standards
If you want to become a Prime Contractor, you must meet minimum environmental standards before you can bid on projects. As part of the pre-qualification process, you will submit information about how you manage environmental risks on site. You must show that you have a plan to prevent pollution, manage waste, and protect natural areas like the Corvid Creek Ravine or the Tamsin River shoreline.
Contractor Environmental Responsibilities Package
All construction contractors must follow and sign the Contractor Environmental Responsibilities Package (CERP) with their bid submission or pre-qualification file. The CERP outlines your daily duties while working on City property. It covers spill prevention, noise limits, dust control, and proper disposal of construction materials. You must read the CERP carefully before you submit your bid.
Standard General Conditions (SGCs)
Large construction projects include the Standard General Conditions (SGCs) in the bid documents. Article 20 of the SGCs adds extra environmental rules on top of the CERP. You must make sure your crew follows these controls on site:
- 20.1 Erosion and Sediment Control Plan
- 20.2 Soil Conservation and Stockpiles
- 20.3 Project Site Water Management
- 20.4 Waste Management and Recycling
- 20.5 Fueling Operations and Spill Prevention
- 20.6 Release Reporting and Clean-up
- 20.7 Discovery of Hazardous Substances
- 20.8 Use of Hazardous Substances in Performance of the Work
- 20.9 Offsite Disposal of Excavated Material
- 20.10 Recycled and Imported Fill Material
- 20.11 Reduced Idling of Vehicles and Construction Equipment
- 20.12 Tree and Plant Protection
- 20.13 Application of Pesticides and Herbicides
- 20.14 Clean-Up and Restoration of Project Site
These rules work with the Ontario Building Code and the Environmental Protection Act to keep Wrenford safe. The City checks your site regularly to make sure you follow Article 20. If you have questions about these requirements, contact the Purchasing Manager at 519-555-0100.
