About teen fitness programs
Teen fitness programs are designed for Wrenford residents aged 13 to 17 who want to stay active, build confidence, and meet new friends. Led by trained recreation staff, our sessions focus on fun movement, basic fitness skills, and healthy habits. You can join drop-in open gyms, structured fitness classes, or aquatic programs at any of our City facilities.
Where and when
Most teen programs run after school and on weekends. Locations include the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre gymnasium, the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre fieldhouse, and the Westbrook Community Arena. Aquatic sessions are held at the Northgate Aquatic Centre. Check the program schedule online for specific days and times, as room assignments can change with school holidays and facility bookings.
Program types
- Aquatics for teens: Learn stroke improvement, water safety, and lap swimming. These classes build endurance and water confidence in a supervised environment.
- Strength and conditioning: Focus on bodyweight exercises, light resistance training, and core stability. Instructors show you how to exercise safely using minimal equipment.
- Yoga and mindfulness: Gentle stretching, balance work, and breathing exercises to help you manage stress and improve flexibility. Mats are provided, but you can bring your own.
- Drop-in teen open gym: Access the fitness centre and fieldhouse during set evening hours. Staff are on site to help you with equipment and answer questions, but you can work out at your own pace.
Registration and fees
Most structured classes require registration through the Programs portal or by calling 311. Drop-in sessions are free, but you must show a valid Wrenford Youth Card or a photo ID with your address to prove you are a resident. The Youth Card is available at any recreation facility front desk.
Registration opens four weeks before the first class. For popular sessions, a virtual waiting room opens 30 minutes before the official start time. The standard registration fee is $40.00 for a six-week course. If you need financial help, you can apply for Recreation Fee Assistance to reduce your cost. Fees are collected at registration and cover staff supervision, facility use, and equipment.
Safety and inclusivity
All teen programs are supervised by certified recreation staff. We keep class sizes small so everyone gets attention and support. If you have a medical condition, mobility need, or just want a modified pace, tell the instructor at the start of the first session. We can adjust exercises or suggest alternative movements. Our programs welcome teens of all skill levels and backgrounds.
