How street parking rules work near parks

Street parking rules change from one street to the next. These rules help keep parking available for visitors, manage traffic flow, and keep streets clear for maintenance vehicles and emergency responders. You will find specific rules posted on signs near park entrances, on nearby streets, and at trailheads. Streets in the downtown grid, like Mercer Street and Tamsin Street, have different limits than residential streets in the Benchlands or Eastfield neighbourhoods.

Winter parking bans and alternate side parking

During the winter months, the City needs to clear snow from all streets. To make sure plows can reach every lane, the City enforces overnight parking bans and alternate side parking rules.

  • Winter parking ban: From December 1 to March 31, overnight parking is banned on all streets from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. You must move your vehicle to a driveway or a permitted park lot.
  • Alternate side parking: On the 15th of each month (or the next business day if the 15th falls on a weekend), you must move your vehicle to the opposite side of the street before midnight. Enforcement officers begin checking streets at midnight on the 15th. Look for blue route marker signs to see which side of the street is active for that day.

Violating a snow route parking rule can result in a $160.00 penalty. If you do not move your vehicle during the ban, it may be towed.

Street cleaning and maintenance

Streets near parks and trails are swept regularly in the spring and fall to keep runoff out of the storm drains. When you see a "No Parking" sign with a date and time, it means street cleaning is scheduled. Parking on the street during the posted window will result in a ticket. Always check the sign for the exact time and date.

Special events and temporary closures

Wrenford hosts many events in our parks and along the trails. During events like the Tamsin River Run, Wrenford Ice Days, and the Benchlands Folk Festival, the City closes nearby streets to through traffic. These closures help keep pedestrians safe and allow event crews to set up stages and equipment. Look for temporary signs and traffic control officers on event days. Some streets may remain open for local residents and emergency vehicles only.

How to find street-specific rules

Every street has its own set of rules. You can find them by:

  • Reading the parking signs posted on poles near the street.
  • Using the Service Wrenford mobile app or website to check current restrictions.
  • Calling 311 (inside the city) or 519-555-0100 to ask about a specific street.

Street Parking Enforcement Officer patrols run monthly in park-adjacent zones and event streets to ensure compliance. If you see a broken parking meter, a faded sign, or a street that needs a new restriction, report it to 311 or 519-555-0100. The Traffic Section reviews requests and adjusts signs as needed.
