What is an overnight parking ban?
From December 1 to March 31, the City enforces an overnight on-street parking ban from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. each day. This rule lets our road crews clear snow safely and keep streets open for emergency vehicles and transit. The ban is part of the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097.
When does the ban apply?
The ban runs every night from December 1 to March 31, 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Main roads are plowed after 5 centimetres of snow, and residential streets are cleared after 8 centimetres. You must keep your vehicle off the street during these hours so crews can work without obstruction.
How do I know if I am affected?
Parking bans apply to most on-street parking across Wrenford. Seasonal signs are posted at major intersections and street entrances before December 1. Look for these signs in your neighbourhood. If you are not sure whether your street is included, check the Check parking regulations and bylaws page or call Wrenford 311.
Where can I park during the ban?
During the overnight ban, you can park in:
- A private garage or driveway.
- A parking lot or parkade that is open overnight.
- Zone A (Downtown core) or Zone B (Fallsview & Market Square) on-street paid parking, as long as it is between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
- Any street that is not a snow route and has no other parking restrictions.
- An alley, if it is wider than 6.1 metres, has no pre-existing restrictions, leaves 1.5 metres between your vehicle and any driveway or garage, and keeps 3 metres of clearance on either side for other drivers.
Do not park on your front lawn or block a driveway, even during a ban. RVs and trailers may not stay on a public roadway for more than 72 consecutive hours. Between May 1 and October 15, you may park an RV on a front driveway if you do not block the sidewalk.
Exemptions
On-street accessible parking zones located along snow routes are exempt from the overnight ban at all times. If you or a household member have mobility issues, learn more about accessible parking zones and how to apply for one.
Enforcement and fees
By-law Enforcement officers monitor streets during ban hours. Vehicles left parked on the street during a ban may receive a parking ticket or be towed. The specified penalty for a parking ban violation is $160.00. If a vehicle is left unattended and considered abandoned, the specified penalty is $203.00, plus towing and storage costs.
For questions about enforcement or to report a vehicle blocking a snow route, contact the By-law Enforcement team at By-law Enforcement or call 311.
