How we care for fields
The City maintains sports fields and park spaces across Wrenford, from Riverside Flats Park to Ambrel Lake Park and the Eastfield Twin Arenas. We work with user groups, leagues, and the public to keep these areas safe and playable all season long. Our maintenance schedule depends on weather, soil conditions, and how much the fields are used. We build rest periods into the schedule so the turf can recover after heavy play. Balancing usage, timing, and recovery is key to keeping every field in top condition.
Ball diamond maintenance
Our parks team prepares ball diamonds by removing weeds, edging transitions, and grading the infield. We maintain the mound and home plate areas, rake base paths, and manage the infield skin. We also aerate, top dress, and overseed the grass to keep the playing surface even and safe for players. Regular maintenance ensures that base paths stay firm and that the dirt does not wash away during heavy rain.
Grass field maintenance
Grass fields receive regular mowing, aeration, and top dressing. We overseed worn areas and run annual fertility and pest control programs. Irrigation is scheduled based on rainfall and temperature. We also remove debris and repair turf damage after games or events. These steps help prevent bare spots and keep the grass thick enough to withstand weekend tournaments and weekday practices.
Synthetic field maintenance
Synthetic playing surfaces at facilities like the Westbrook Community Arena and Eastfield Twin Arenas are groomed regularly to keep fibres upright. We redistribute infill, remove litter, and inspect seams and edges for wear. Deep cleaning and professional inspections happen annually to ensure proper drainage and safety. Monitoring infill depth and drainage performance helps us catch wear before it becomes a hazard.
How your team can help
Local sports associations are important partners in keeping Wrenford fields in good condition. We ask that every user group:
- Check field conditions before play and report any damage.
- Return all equipment, such as mats and rakes, to the designated storage area.
- Share field care tips with coaches, parents, and volunteers.
- Avoid using metal cleats on synthetic surfaces and use soft-soled footwear on grass fields.
Small efforts by every team add up and help preserve these spaces for the whole community. When everyone follows basic care steps, fields stay playable longer and require fewer repairs.
Report a field issue
Notice a hole in a base path, a torn seam, or damaged turf? You can help us respond quickly by reporting the issue. Use the Report a park maintenance issue form, or email [email protected]. Include the park name, field location, and a photo if possible. Our crew reviews reports daily and prioritizes work based on safety and playability.
