Participate in public art projects

Learn how to submit artwork, join the public art committee, and apply for upcoming city commissions and the Art Bank.

How the city commissions public art

The City of Wrenford adds artwork to our streets, parks, and buildings to tell our stories and reflect our community. When the City funds eligible capital projects, one per cent of the budget is set aside to commission new pieces. This ensures that public art stays connected to the people who use the space every day. The City follows the Public Art Policy By-law 2026-092 to guide how art is planned, created, and preserved.

Artist commission calls

The City posts calls for artists when new sites need work. These projects usually focus on a specific location, such as a park shelter, a transit terminal, or a community facility. You can expect to create durable, site-specific designs that residents will enjoy for years.

Apply for the Art Bank

The City maintains a collection of visual art and heritage pieces displayed in City Hall, the Fallsview Arts Centre, the Wrenford Public Library branches, and various parks. The Wrenford Public Library Board and the Arts & Heritage Committee run the Art Bank programme.

We accept submissions from Wrenford residents who create original artwork for display or long-term loan. If your work is accepted, it becomes part of the city's care and conservation plan.

  • Submit your portfolio and a brief artist statement to [email protected].
  • Include high-resolution images of your work and a list of materials used.

Join the Public Art Committee

The Public Art Committee helps guide how the City selects, installs, and maintains artwork across Wrenford. Committee members review proposals, advise on placement, and ensure that art projects meet community needs.

  • Applications for the next intake are open now.
  • Deadline to apply: January 31, 2027.
  • Members serve a three-year term with the option for one reappointment.
  • Members receive a monthly stipend of $150 to cover meeting expenses.

Community art projects and events

Wrenford often partners with local schools, neighbourhood groups, and the Wrenford Public Library Board to host hands-on art workshops, mural painting days, and seasonal installations. These projects are open to all ages and skill levels.

  • Sign up for the city's monthly public art newsletter to get event alerts.
  • Book a cultural space at the Fallsview Arts Centre or Railside Gallery to showcase your work.

What to include in your application

Whether you are applying for a commission call or submitting to the Art Bank, your application should include:

  • A cover letter or letter of intent explaining your concept and how it fits the site.
  • Sketches, renderings, or photographs of similar past work.
  • A list of materials, estimated costs, and a timeline for completion.
  • Proof of Wrenford residency (for Art Bank submissions).
