About the committee
The Public Art Committee advises City Council, City staff, developers, and residents on the placement of artwork in Wrenford's parks, streets, and civic buildings. We review artist proposals, oversee the Public Art Reserve, and ensure that new pieces reflect our community's stories and values. The committee operates independently under the guidance of the Arts & Heritage Committee and follows the Public Art Policy By-law 2026-092.
What we do
- Review public art proposals from artists, developers, and community groups.
- Advise on the selection of artists for commissioned projects.
- Oversee the care and relocation of existing artworks in the Public Art Collection.
- Recommend funding allocations from the Public Art Reserve for special projects.
- Engage residents through open meetings and community consultations.
Who can apply
We welcome applications from Wrenford residents who bring diverse perspectives and skills. You do not need to be a professional artist, but a strong interest in the arts, design, or community planning is helpful. We actively encourage applications from:
- Local artists and creatives.
- Representatives of neighbourhood associations.
- Professionals in planning, architecture, or landscape design.
- Members of the youth and seniors' populations.
- Residents with lived experience in accessibility and inclusive design.
Term and commitment
Members serve a three-year term, with the possibility of reappointment for one additional term. The committee meets monthly from March to November at the Fallsview Arts Centre, Room 201, 50 Fallsview Road. Meetings last approximately two hours, with occasional evening sessions for project site visits. Members receive a small stipend to cover meeting-related expenses.
