Public art installation maintenance
You play a vital role in keeping Wrenford’s public spaces beautiful and safe. The City of Wrenford owns and maintains a diverse collection of sculptures, murals, and installations across our neighbourhoods, from Downtown to Industrial Park East. This page outlines how you can help care for these works and what to do if you notice damage.
Your role in preservation
Public art belongs to everyone. Simple acts of respect go a long way. Please do not climb on sculptures, lean against murals, or attach items to installations. Vandalism, graffiti, and physical damage shorten the life of these works and increase costs for taxpayers. If you see someone damaging a piece, please contact Wrenford 311 immediately.
Regular cleaning is handled by City crews, but you can help by reporting spills, bird droppings, or accumulated debris that might stain surfaces. For bronze or metal pieces, avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive pads if you are tempted to clean them yourself. Let the professionals handle specialized materials.
Reporting issues
If you notice a public art piece is damaged, loose, or unsafe, report it right away. Do not attempt repairs yourself, as this could cause further damage or injury. Provide the following details when you report:
- The specific location (neighbourhood and nearest cross-street)
- The name of the artwork, if known
- A description of the damage
- A photo, if safe to take
You can report issues through Wrenford 311 or by email. The Arts and Heritage team will assess the damage and schedule repairs or conservation work as needed. Urgent safety hazards are prioritized.
Long-term care and funding
The City allocates an annual budget for the maintenance and conservation of public art. This includes routine cleaning, structural inspections, and restorative work. We also seek grants and community partnerships to support major conservation projects. If you are interested in supporting specific pieces or contributing to the care of our cultural heritage, consider joining the public art committee or exploring donation opportunities.
