Give back to the community with a public art donation
The City of Wrenford's Public Art Collection helps make our shared spaces more beautiful and meaningful. We welcome donations of public art that fit with our goal of creating landmarks and building community pride. If you have a work of art you would like to donate, here is how the process works.
How to submit your artwork
All donations must start with a donation application. You can download the Donation of Artwork for Public Property form and email it to [email protected]. Please include high-quality photos or drawings of the piece, along with details about its size, materials, and how it was made.
How we choose donated art
The Arts & Heritage Committee reviews every submission. We look for pieces that meet these criteria:
- Artist qualifications and experience (15 points): We review your education, exhibition history, and professional recognition. Both formally trained and self-taught artists are welcome.
- Artistic merit and originality (15 points): The work must be high-quality and reflect a distinct creative approach. We look for pieces that will be well-received and add to the community.
- Suitability for the location (15 points): The artwork should fit well with nearby architecture, landscapes, and utilities.
- Suitability for the community (10 points): The piece should be meaningful and respectful to a wide range of people in Wrenford.
- Conservation and maintenance (10 points): We consider how often the art will need care. We avoid pieces with complicated technical parts that would drain future budgets or staff time.
- Cost (10 points): We look at both the current price and the long-term financial impact of installing and caring for the work.
Conservation and maintenance guarantee
To ensure the artwork stays in good shape for years to come, you may be asked to provide a financial guarantee. This covers the administration and conservation costs needed to care for the piece. The guarantee is usually up to 20 per cent of the artwork's total appraised value or installation budget.
Review and agreement
Once your application is received, the Arts & Heritage Committee will review it against the criteria above. If your artwork is accepted, the City will work with you to sign a donation agreement. This document confirms the roles and responsibilities of both parties and outlines the outcomes for the artwork.
Donating funds instead of artwork
If you would prefer to donate money rather than a physical piece, your contribution can go toward a specific public art project you choose. If you do not have a specific project in mind, your donation will be placed in the Public Art Reserve. This fund supports future public art initiatives identified by the City.
