The City is replacing waste and recycling containers at the Hollis Park Off-Leash Area this week to keep the park clean and safe for dogs and their owners. The new bins will be installed at the main entrance on 70 Hollis Park Drive and at the east trailhead.
Construction crews will begin work on Monday, August 17. The project is expected to take about two weeks. During this time, the area will remain open for walking your dog, but some benches and shaded seating near the new bins may be temporarily removed. Crews will keep the pathways clear at all times.
“Neighbourhood parks are where our community gathers to relax and play, and keeping them clean is a top priority,” says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. “These new secure bins are designed to keep wildlife out while making it easy for dog owners to dispose of waste and recyclables properly.”
The old bins have been removed and hauled away. The new stations feature sturdy, pet-proof lids and separate compartments for general waste and recyclables. They are painted in a neutral green to blend with the surrounding trees and grass.
Residents can still use the waste bins at the nearby Ambrel Lake Park and the drop-off depot at 1010 Northgate Boulevard if they prefer. Once the new stations are in place, the City will also upgrade the surrounding signage to match the updated park layout.
Please remember to keep your dog under effective control at all times. If your dog pulls on the leash or reacts to other dogs or wildlife, please use a shorter leash or step aside onto the grass. You can find more information on dog behaviour and shared trail etiquette on our off-leash area guide page. If you see a spill or notice the new bins are not working properly, report it online so our crew can address it quickly.
