Find off-leash dog areas

Discover Wrenford's designated off-leash areas, park rules, and amenities for you and your dog.

Where to let your dog roam

Wrenford offers several designated off-leash areas across the city where licensed dogs can play and socialize. Dogs must be off-leash only within the marked boundaries of these parks. They are not allowed on children's playgrounds, sports fields, or near the Tamsin River Trail System.

  • Hollis Park Off-Leash Area (70 Hollis Park Drive) – Fully fenced with separate zones for small and large dogs, gravel paths, and waste bag stations.
  • Ambrel Lake Park (1350 Ambrel Lake Road) – Grassy open space along the boardwalk with shaded benches and a dog water fountain.
  • Benchlands Lookout Park (500 Benchlands Drive) – Rolling terrain with natural trails and a fully enclosed off-leash zone overlooking the falls.
  • Riverside Flats Park (25 Water Street) – Large grassy field adjacent to the event lawn, ideal for running and fetch.

All off-leash areas are open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. Amenities include waste bag dispensers, water fountains for dogs, and shaded seating for owners.

Off-leash etiquette and safety rules

Keep your dog safe and ensure everyone enjoys the park by following these rules under the By-laws page for details on the Responsible Pet Ownership By-law 2018-063:

  • Leash your dog when entering and exiting the off-leash zone.
  • Keep your dog within sight and under verbal control at all times.
  • Maximum of two dogs per person allowed off-leash.
  • Clean up after your pet immediately and dispose of waste in provided bins.
  • Do not bring aggressive dogs, dogs in heat, or dogs that are sick.
  • Remove your dog from the area immediately if it shows signs of aggression or fear.
  • Supervise children closely; dogs are not allowed on playground equipment.

You are legally responsible for your dog's behaviour and any damage caused while off-leash. Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated under Ontario law.

Commercial dog walking

If you are a professional dog walker, Wrenford allows commercial off-leash activity in designated areas. Walkers may manage up to four dogs at a time but must carry proof of insurance and a city-issued commercial walker permit. Visit the Business Licences page for more information.
