Wrenford set new records for housing growth and development approvals in 2025, with the city processing 485 development permits and completing 1,050 new homes across all neighbourhoods. These results mark the strongest year on record for residential construction and bring the City of Wrenford significantly closer to its 1,200 new homes target outlined in the Wrenford Housing Strategy 2025–2030.
The surge in activity reflects a combination of streamlined permitting, expanded funding streams, and increased private investment in the city’s growth corridors. The Planning and Development department processed permits at an average of three days faster than in 2024, thanks to revised internal workflows and the continued use of the Wrenford ePermits portal.
“For residents, newcomers, and families looking to put down roots, seeing new homes rise in every ward is a clear sign that our city is growing in the right direction,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “We are building a more diverse and affordable housing stock while protecting the neighbourhood character that makes Wrenford home.”
The record year was supported by several city initiatives. The Wrenford Housing Capital Initiative provided $12.4 million in funding to non-profit partners for three large-scale rental projects in Northgate and the Benchlands. The Housing Land Bank also moved forward, allocating six underutilized city-owned side lots to developers committed to long-term affordability covenants. Additionally, the city’s Wrenford Housing Incentive Program saw a 30 per cent increase in applications, with developers taking advantage of fee rebates and the five-year property tax exemption for new builds.
Staff are now tracking the final tally of the 1,200-home goal. The upcoming Housing Targets Report 2026 will detail how close the city has come to meeting its annual and long-range objectives, as well as which wards contributed the most units.
