About non-market housing
Non-market housing refers to rental and supportive homes that are not listed on the open private market. In Wrenford, these units are managed by non-profit housing providers, the City, or community partners. Rents are based on your income, or the buildings provide wrap-around services for people experiencing homelessness or living with disabilities.
How to apply
Most non-market housing in Wrenford uses a single application process called the Coordinated Access Program. When you apply, you are placed on a waitlist based on your housing need and length of time on the list. You do not need to apply to each building separately.
- Start your application online using the City's housing portal, or pick up a paper form at City Hall.
- Submit proof of income and identification.
- Wait for a notification. The City reviews applications every quarter.
Types of non-market housing
Subsidized rentals
These apartments and townhomes are owned by non-profit organizations. Rent is set at thirty per cent of your net monthly income. If your income changes, you must report it to your landlord. You can find current listings and apply through the Wrenford Rental Housing Inventory.
Supportive housing
Supportive housing combines affordable units with on-site social services. It is designed for seniors, people with disabilities, or individuals exiting homelessness. Staff help with meal planning, medication management, and connecting to health care.
Emergency shelter
If you need a place to stay tonight, Safe Nights Wrenford operates a forty-bed emergency shelter in the downtown core. The shelter is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Call the intake line to check bed availability.
Senior housing
Wrenford offers age-restricted rentals for residents aged fifty-five and older. These buildings feature accessible layouts and on-site programming. Review the Seniors Housing Strategy for eligibility and application details.
Financial and housing support
If you are struggling with past-due rent or need help finding a landlord, the City offers several programs:
- Wrenford Rent Bank: Provides interest-free loans to cover past-due rent and prevent eviction. Apply online or visit the Community Services counter at City Hall. Contact [email protected] for intake questions.
- Ontario Works: If you have a low income, you may qualify for the Ontario Works Housing Support program. Visit the Ontario Works page for eligibility and application forms.
- Rental Assistance Grants: Non-profit landlords can apply for the Wrenford Housing Incentive Program to cover development charges and pre-construction costs.
