The City of Wrenford is inviting artists, designers, and makers to submit proposals for new public artworks in the downtown core. The call for proposals opens today and runs until December 15, 2026. This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to bring colour, culture, and conversation to our busiest streets.
Under the Public Art Commission Programme, the City sets aside one per cent of eligible capital project budgets for new art. This year, we are focusing on three high-visibility areas: the pedestrian plaza at Market Square, the widened sidewalks along Mercer Street, and the new pathway connecting to the Tamsin River Trail. We are looking for durable, weather-resistant pieces that reflect the history and spirit of our city.
Local and regional artists are encouraged to apply. You do not need to be a Wrenford resident to submit a proposal, but your work must be safe for the public and easy to maintain. Guidelines, budget ranges, and the application form are available on the Arts & Heritage page. Please review the full criteria before you begin your submission. All proposals must be received by 4:30 p.m. on December 15, 2026, via our online portal.
"We want our downtown to feel vibrant and welcoming for everyone," says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "This call for proposals is a great chance to bring fresh perspectives to our public spaces and give our artists a chance to create something that residents will be proud of for years to come."
Once the submission period closes, the Arts & Heritage Committee will review all entries and recommend a shortlist to City Council. Selected artists will be announced in early 2027. In the meantime, you can explore existing works through the Public Art Map and read more about how we manage the Public Art Collection. If you are interested in helping shape future projects, you can also apply to become a committee member.
