City Council approved the 2026–2027 recreation operating and capital budget on Monday, October 5, 2026, during a regular meeting at 100 Mercer Street. The approved budget outlines funding for all city-run leisure centres, parks, and community programmes, as well as major upgrades to aquatic and outdoor facilities.
The operating budget covers day-to-day costs, including staff salaries, utility bills, and the delivery of swimming lessons, summer day camps, and community events. To keep services affordable while managing rising costs, Council approved a modest five per cent average increase across most leisure centre and park rental fees. These changes will take effect immediately for the current registration period.
The capital budget allocates $1.8 million for facility improvements and maintenance. Key projects include resurfacing the outdoor courts at Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, replacing mechanical systems at Kingfisher Outdoor Pool, and upgrading drainage at Ambrel Lake Park. Funds are also set aside for ongoing trail maintenance and winter grooming.
“We are investing in the places where Wrenford families play, learn, and connect,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “This budget keeps our facilities safe and modern while respecting the budgets of residents who rely on these services every day.”
Residents can review the full fee schedule and begin planning their winter activities. Fall program registration is now open, and winter registration opens the first Monday of December. If you need help covering costs, you can apply for a fee waiver or reduction at the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall or by mail.
