Starting this week, the City of Wrenford is accepting bookings for newly installed accessible picnic shelters at Benchlands Lookout Park. The shelters were designed with input from local residents and accessibility advocates to ensure that everyone can enjoy a day out at the falls.
Each shelter features level, paved flooring that is easy to navigate in a wheelchair or with a walker. The picnic tables are built with transfer-friendly seating and knee clearance, so guests can move from their mobility device to the table without assistance. Wide, smooth pathways connect the shelters to the main parking area and the accessible washrooms located nearby.
Reservations are now open for the remainder of the 2026 season. You can book a shelter online through the Parks & Trails page, or call 311 to speak with a staff member who can assist with your request. If you need an accommodation that is not listed on the booking page, please email [email protected] and our team will work with you to find a solution.
"We know that outdoor spaces are where our community comes together," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "By ensuring our park shelters meet high accessibility standards, we are making it simpler for neighbours of all abilities to host birthdays, family get-togethers, and quiet moments in nature without worrying about barriers or uneven ground."
The shelters follow the City's commitment to barrier-free public spaces outlined in the Accessibility policy and plan. If you visit the shelters and notice an issue, or if you have ideas for future improvements, please share your feedback through the Accessibility feedback form.
