Youth council partners with seniors for ice days volunteer shift

The Wrenford Youth Council is teaming up with older adults to volunteer at the upcoming Wrenford Ice Days festival this February. The intergenerational volunteer shift will take place at Riverside Flats Park during Family Day weekend. The City is bringing together youth and seniors to share skills and keep the community event running smoothly.

This partnership is part of the City's ongoing Seniors & Youth initiative. It gives young people a chance to step into leadership roles while older residents contribute their time and local knowledge. Youth volunteers will handle registration desks, hand out event maps, and help direct traffic near the outdoor rinks. Senior volunteers will man the history tent, share stories about the festival's past, and assist visitors with seating and accessibility needs.

"Bringing different generations together makes our festivals stronger and more welcoming," says Caroline Dubé, Recreation Programs Coordinator. "Seniors bring a wealth of experience, and youth bring fresh energy. When they work side by side, everyone enjoys the event more."

If you want to join the volunteer team, you can register your interest through the volunteer portal. Older adults who are interested in joining the event planning committee can learn more about how to get involved by visiting Seniors recreation opportunities. For additional wellness and social programs, check out Seniors support, outreach, and networking. All volunteers will receive a free meal voucher and a commemorative Wrenford Ice Days t-shirt.

The Wrenford Ice Days festival is a favourite family tradition in Wrenford. It features outdoor skating, live music, and winter games. Keep an eye on the event calendar for the full schedule and weather updates as the date approaches.
