You can lend a hand at a variety of locations and events, including community recreation centres, neighbourhood associations, parks and trails, and City-hosted celebrations like Canada Day in the Park or the Benchlands Folk Festival. You can also support local food banks, community hubs, and neighbourhood cleanup days.
How to apply
Getting started is simple. You can drop in to Room 204, Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1 to pick up an application form or speak with a staff member. You can also email [email protected] to request an application package by mail or email. Once we receive your application, a Volunteer Services coordinator will contact you to discuss your interests and match you with a role. If you prefer to learn more first, come to a Volunteer Information Session. These sessions are held the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 204.
What you can expect
Every volunteer role comes with clear expectations. You will receive an orientation before you start, along with any specific training your role requires. Some positions may require a vulnerable sector check, which the City can help you arrange. You will work alongside paid staff and other volunteers to support community programs, assist with event setup, mentor youth, or help with neighbourhood cleanups. Volunteering is flexible. You can choose a regular weekly shift, a monthly committee meeting, or a one-time event. If your schedule changes, just let your coordinator know. The City provides liability coverage for all registered volunteers while they are on duty.
Recognition and next steps
Wrenford values the time you give. The City holds an annual volunteer recognition event every March 1 to thank those who have served the community. You can also use your volunteer hours to apply for certain community grants or access discounts at recreation facilities. If you want to book a community centre room or apply for a Neighbourhood revitalization grants, you will need an active volunteer or community association registration. Contact the Neighbourhoods Office for help with the paperwork.
