Waste diversion success stories highlight 2025 achievements

As we wrap up 2025, the City of Wrenford is celebrating a strong year for waste diversion. Thanks to your efforts at home and across the community, more material is being sorted correctly and kept out of the landfill. These successes bring us closer to our goal of diverting 60 per cent of residential waste by 2030.

Participation in the Green Bin and Blue Bin programs has grown steadily. Drop-off facilities like the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility and the Northgate Drop-off Depot have handled increased volumes of diverted materials, including household hazardous waste, electronics, and construction debris. Residents are also making better use of the Waste Wizard online tool to check exactly where items belong.

"When residents and businesses make the effort to sort their waste correctly, the impact is immediate," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Every item we keep out of the landfill helps us reach our 2030 goal and reduces the cost of waste management for everyone."

Community partnerships are also driving results. The Wrenford General Hospital Green Team and the Tamsin College Campus Waste Initiative have streamlined sorting on their campuses. Meanwhile, the Downtown Wrenford BIA Zero Waste Challenge has helped local merchants reduce single-use items and improve composting. Schools are getting involved too, with Waste Wise Schools workshops teaching students how to manage waste.

You can keep the momentum going. Sign up to become a Waste Wise Ambassador and help your neighbours sort correctly. Visit Garbage & Recycling for collection schedules, bin preparation tips, and details on bulky item pickup and seasonal drop-off events.
