The City of Wrenford has updated its flood risk maps for the spring season to help residents living near the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek prepare for higher water levels. The revised maps are now available online and will guide emergency planning and property development through the season.
The Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority monitors water flow along the river and its tributaries daily. When levels rise, the authority moves the river into a Watch or Warning zone. While no flooding is expected right now, conditions can shift quickly with spring runoff and heavy rain. Residents in low-lying areas like Riverside Flats, the Corvid Creek Ravine natural area, and along Ambrel Lake should stay alert.
If you live near the water, take these steps to protect your home and neighbourhood:
- Regularly check water levels along your property.
- Secure loose items, patio furniture, and debris near the shoreline.
- Test your sump pump and make sure drainage systems are clear.
- Review your personal flood preparedness plan and keep important documents in a waterproof container.
"We want every resident to feel confident about spring flooding," says Liam O'Rourke, the City's Community Emergency Management Coordinator. "Having clear, up-to-date maps and knowing where to find reliable information makes a big difference when the water starts to rise."
Stay informed as water levels change. You can sign up for the Wrenford Emergency Alert Network to receive text and email warnings directly on your phone. The system will tell you when to take cover, when to evacuate, or when it is safe to return home.
