City Council approved the Seniors Housing Strategy implementation plan on November 18, 2025, at Wrenford City Hall. The plan sets out the next steps to make sure older residents have safe, affordable places to live as they grow older.
The strategy focuses on keeping seniors in their own homes for as long as possible. It includes funding for home accessibility upgrades, more supportive housing units near transit, and stronger partnerships with local health and housing groups. The City will work closely with Seniors Housing Wrenford and Tamsin Valley Public Health to expand care options and reduce wait times.
"We know that housing is the foundation of health and independence for our older residents," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "This plan gives us the tools to act quickly, while making sure no one is left behind."
Key actions in the plan include:
- Launching a $750,000 Seniors Housing Implementation Fund over two years to cover design and construction costs for new supportive housing projects.
- Updating the Zoning By-law to allow secondary suites and small multi-unit buildings in neighbourhoods with good transit access.
- Expanding the Senior Housing Navigation Clinic so more residents can get help with applications and housing permits.
- Hosting quarterly feedback sessions at recreation centres across the city to keep residents involved.
Residents who want to learn more or apply for support can visit the Seniors housing strategy page or stop by the Senior Housing Navigation Clinic at Wrenford City Hall. The clinic is open on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
