Seniors fire safety workshop returns to Fallsview Arts Centre in November

Fire Rescue is bringing its popular Seniors Fire Safety Workshop back to Fallsview Arts Centre in November 2025. The free, in-person session is designed to help older adults and their caregivers stay safe as temperatures drop and heating equipment goes into regular use.

During the two-hour workshop, Fire Rescue prevention officers will walk you through the most common household fire hazards. You will learn how to test and maintain smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, keep your kitchen safe while cooking, and plan a home escape route that works for you. The session includes a hands-on demonstration of fire extinguishers and a checklist you can take home.

"Fire safety is one of the most important things we can do to protect our older neighbours," said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "This workshop gives you practical, easy-to-follow steps to keep your home secure during the colder months."

Registration is required. Seats are limited to 40 participants per session. Call 519-555-0100 or visit our Seniors to reserve your spot. The workshop is free, and refreshments will be provided. If you need help getting to the venue, check out our Seniors transportation information for free door-to-door shuttle services.
