Starting Tuesday, May 5, 2025, City crews will collect green bins weekly across Wrenford. The new schedule will line up with your regular garbage collection day.
This change responds to resident feedback and the return of warmer weather. When yard waste and food scraps increase, weekly pickups keep odours down and prevent pests. It also helps the City meet its Waste Diversion Target 2040 by making it easier for you to separate organics.
"We know that keeping green bins out on the curb all the time can be a hassle, but weekly collection makes a big difference for our streets and our composting goals," said Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "It is one of the simplest ways to cut down on landfill waste."
Residents should check the collection schedule for your exact day and time. Remember to place your green bin at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection morning. Keep the lid closed and never line the bin with plastic bags. If your green bin is full before collection day, you can drop off food scraps at any recreation centre or the Northgate Drop-off Depot until 4:00 p.m.
Under the Waste Management By-law 2023-105, all residential properties must participate in the organics program. The weekly schedule ensures that food scraps and yard trimmings are processed into nutrient-rich compost for local parks and gardens. Use the Waste Wizard online tool to quickly check if an item belongs in the green bin. For questions, call 311 or 519-555-0100. Service alerts and route updates are posted on the Service Alerts page.
