City launches application process for 2026 development cost charges

The City of Wrenford is now accepting applications for 2026 development cost charges. These charges help pay for the new roads, water mains, sewer lines, and parks that support growth across the city. If you are planning a new subdivision, a commercial building, or a major renovation, you will need to submit your application through the Planning and Development department.

Development cost charges are set by the province and are reviewed every two years. The 2026 rates reflect the current cost of building and upgrading infrastructure to keep pace with Wrenford’s growth. For a new single detached house, the average charge is $18,500.00. Commercial and industrial projects are charged at $32.00 per square metre of building space.

If you are a developer or a homeowner planning a large project, you can submit your application online or in person at Wrenford City Hall. Make sure you include all required drawings, engineering reports, and the completeness check fee of $75.00. Applications that are missing information will be returned before the review clock starts.

The City also offers an Infrastructure Deferral Programme. This allows developers to build the required road, water, or sewer infrastructure themselves to City standards, rather than paying the charge upfront. If you are interested in this option, you must include a detailed construction schedule with your application.

“The 2026 rates ensure that new development pays its fair share for the infrastructure it needs,” says City Manager Robert Eng. “We want growth to happen smoothly, so we are making sure all the services are ready before the first shovel hits the ground.”

You can find the full list of 2026 rates, the application forms, and other planning fees on the Development cost charges page. If you have questions about which rates apply to your property, contact the Planning and Development team through the Planning application search tool or email [email protected].
