East Wrenford Waste Facility expansion enters design phase

On January 17, 2024, the City of Wrenford announced that the design phase for the East Wrenford Waste Facility Capacity Expansion Project has officially begun at 3500 Concession 4 Road. General Manager Samuel Adeyemi confirmed that the $18.5 million upgrade will address growing community needs.

The expansion will add a new materials recovery area for sorting recyclables, expand the household hazardous waste drop-off zone, and increase landfill capacity by an additional 15 years. Staff are currently working on the engineering drawings, environmental assessments, and the site alteration permit application under Site Alteration By-law 2022-071.

“This expansion is a necessary step to keep our waste services running smoothly as our community grows,” said Adeyemi. “We have designed the new facility to minimize traffic on Concession 4 Road and to meet the highest environmental standards for runoff and odour control.”

The project is on track for construction to begin in the fall of 2024, with full operations starting in early 2026. During the design phase, residents and businesses can track progress through the Development Applications portal. Staff will also hold two community information sessions in the spring to answer questions about construction hours and traffic management plans.

Residents who want to follow the permit process can view the application status on the Find a planning application page. For details on how long planning applications like this take to review, see the Planning application processing times page.
