Benchlands Lookout Park accessible trails open ahead of schedule

The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce that the new accessible pathway network at Benchlands Lookout Park is open to the public ahead of schedule. The project, located at 500 Benchlands Drive, was completed in July 2024, four months earlier than the original timeline.

The upgrade adds a smooth, all-weather route that connects the main parking area to the overlook, the festival grounds, and the washrooms. The design meets the standards in the Wrenford Accessibility Plan, ensuring room for wheelchairs, strollers, and mobility aids. You can now enjoy the view over the Tamsin River and Wrenford Falls year-round.

"Getting this project finished early means our neighbours can use the park this summer without waiting," said Katrina Doucet, Accessibility Coordinator. "We focused on durable materials and gentle slopes so everyone can move through the space safely."

The work was part of the City's broader commitment to remove barriers in public spaces. The upgrade included new tactile paving at crosswalks, improved drainage to prevent ice buildup in winter, and upgraded lighting along the route. These changes support the Accessibility at the City goal of making every public space welcoming.

The City thanks the residents who shared feedback during the planning phase. Your input helped shape the final design. If you notice any maintenance issues, such as cracks or drainage problems, please report them through our accessibility feedback channels.
