City launches accessibility committee to guide inclusive policy

On November 15, 2023, the City of Wrenford announced the creation of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. The new group will meet at Wrenford City Hall to guide inclusive policy and help the city meet its obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

The committee is a key step in the city's ongoing accessibility strategy. Its members will work alongside city staff to identify barriers in civic services, programs, and infrastructure. Together, they will recommend changes that make Wrenford a more welcoming place for residents with disabilities.

The committee brings together residents with lived experience and dedicated city staff. Members will serve two-year terms and hold quarterly meetings that are open to the public. If you are interested in joining the committee or learning about upcoming meetings, you can find application details on the Accessibility committee page.

"Building an accessible Wrenford is a shared responsibility," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "This committee ensures that the voices of residents with disabilities are at the centre of every decision we make about our city."

Residents can also help by sharing what they see. If you experience or witness an accessibility barrier in a city facility or on the street, you can report it online or by calling Wrenford 311. The city uses this feedback to prioritize repairs and service improvements.

The city is also refreshing its Accessibility policy and plan to ensure all new projects follow provincial standards. For more information on how the city is improving accessibility across parks, transit, and buildings, visit the Accessibility at the City page.
