Find programs for youth aged 8 to 17
Young people in Wrenford can join sports, fitness, arts, and leadership programs at our community centres, arenas, and aquatic centres. These activities help you build skills, stay active, and meet friends. Programs are designed with input from youth workers and staff to keep them fun and welcoming. You will find opportunities to learn new hobbies, play on teams, and explore your interests in a safe environment.
How to register
You can register for most programs online or in person at the Youth Recreation Desk in City Hall or any recreation centre. See Access community recreation programs for a full list of activities. Registration for spring and summer programs, including camps, opens on the first Monday of March. Winter programs open the first Monday of December, and fall programs open the last Monday of August. If you need help with the registration process, staff at the front desk can guide you. Expect the registration process to take up to one hour the first time you sign up. You can also pick up printed program guides at any time.
Sports and fitness
Wrenford offers a wide range of team and individual sports. You can play ball hockey at the Eastfield Twin Arenas, go swimming at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre or Northgate Aquatic Centre, or try Youth swimming lessons and water safety at the aquatic centres. You can also try sailing and Youth sailing and outdoor water sports at Ambrel Lake. Fitness classes and weight training are also available at all major centres. Please note that youth aged 13 to 14 must complete a Youth Fitness Orientation and wear a Youth Fitness Wristband to use the equipment. See Youth fitness and weight training access for rules and hours. Youth aged 15 to 17 can use the fitness areas without an adult.
Inclusion and support
We want every young person to feel welcome. If you have a disability or need extra help, see Youth inclusion and support services for adapted programs and support staff. The Inclusion Support Service can arrange a Leisure Companion to join your program. You can also join the Youth Inclusion Circle for a safe drop-in space, or try adapted sports through Wrenford All-Stars. For youth who volunteer twenty hours, you can earn a Youth Volunteer Recognition Pass that gives you three free recreation facility passes a year. These programs are designed to help you connect with others and build confidence.
Fees and subsidies
Program fees vary by activity and age group. The City provides a recreation subsidy that covers up to 80 per cent of program costs for eligible youth. You do not need to pay the full fee upfront if you qualify. Contact the Recreation Programs Coordinator, Caroline Dubé, to learn more about subsidies and payment plans. You can also ask staff at any recreation centre about financial assistance.
Where to go and drop-in hours
Visit a recreation centre to see drop-in schedules, pick up a program guide, or speak with a youth worker. The Youth Recreation Desk is open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Centres are open daily with varying hours. You can also check the online map to find a centre near you.
