Youth community center programs and access

Find out where and how your teen or young adult can join programmes, drop in, and get support at Wrenford community centres and recreation facilities.

Where youth programmes are held

Wrenford runs youth programmes at several community centres and recreation facilities across the city. Most programmes are open to residents aged 12 to 17. Some employment and transition programmes welcome youth up to age 24.

  • Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre (Benchlands): fitness classes, drop-in pool hours, and the Youth Employment Hub.
  • Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre (Ambrel Lake): older adults' lounge, youth programming, and program rooms.
  • Northgate Aquatic Centre (Northgate): swim lessons and waterslide access.
  • Westbrook Community Arena (Westbrook): ice sports and community hall events.
  • Eastfield Twin Arenas (Eastfield): summer ball hockey and indoor sports.
  • Kingfisher Outdoor Pool (Kingfisher): seasonal drop-in and lessons.
  • Wildrye Splash Pad (Wildrye): summer splash pad access.

The Wrenford Public Library also hosts youth events, reading clubs, and computer workshops at its Main, Northgate, and Ambrel Lake branches.

How to register and drop in

Most programmes require registration through the Access community recreation programs portal. You will need to create a profile for your young person and verify their address.

Some centres offer drop-in sessions where you can just show up. Drop-in times are posted on the facility schedule. No registration is needed for drop-in pool hours, the youth lounge at Tamsin Valley, and the community hall at Westbrook.

For the Youth Employment Hub, your teen can visit in person. The hub is open Monday to Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre. Walk-ins are welcome for career advice, job search support, and resume workshops.

Fees and financial help

Programme fees vary by activity and age. Residents get a lower rate than non-residents. If you are on a low income, you can apply for a recreation subsidy through the Access community support services page. Subsidies can cover up to 80 per cent of the fee for eligible programmes.

The Leisure Pass gives unlimited drop-in admission to pools and fitness areas for a flat annual rate. Students and seniors also qualify for discounted daily rates.

Accessibility and inclusion

Wrenford is committed to making all recreation programmes accessible. Our Accessibility at the City guides how we remove barriers in our spaces and programmes. All recreation centres have accessible washrooms and change rooms. The Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and Northgate Aquatic Centre feature zero-depth entry ramps and accessible change room benches.

If your young person needs an attendant to join a programme, the Attendant Admission Program covers their entry fee. You can also request accommodations like sign language interpreters, sensory-friendly hours, or modified equipment by contacting the Recreation Programs Coordinator.

Programme highlights

  • Youth Sports Leagues: Basketball, volleyball, and indoor soccer run through the Westbrook and Eastfield arenas.
  • Arts and Crafts: Drop-in art sessions and seasonal workshops at the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre.
  • Life Skills Workshops: First aid, cooking, and budgeting classes at Tamsin Valley.
  • Summer Day Camps: One-week camps held at each major centre, featuring field trips, sports, and creative play.
