Find a garden plot near you
Wrenford has community gardens in Riverside Flats Park, Ambrel Lake Park, and Benchlands Lookout Park. These shared spaces let you grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers alongside your neighbours. Plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can view a full map of active gardens and check current waitlist status on Find community garden plots. Please note that each garden manages its own waitlist and plot assignments, so you will need to contact the garden organizer directly to join.
How to apply for a plot
To reserve a plot, you must submit the Community Garden Plot Application Form and pay the annual fee. We require proof of Wrenford residency to qualify for resident pricing. The City allocates plots to individuals, community groups, or neighbourhood associations. If you need help with the paperwork, visit the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall or email [email protected].
Starting a new community garden
Do you want to create a garden on city land? Review our requirements on Start a community garden. You will need to identify a suitable site, gather support from local residents, and submit a formal proposal to the Parks & Trails team. The City reviews proposals based on land availability, environmental conditions, and genuine community need. We encourage diverse garden styles that match the specific conditions of each site, from raised beds to ground-level plots.
Funding and grants
The City offers financial support for community garden projects through our Community grants program. Registered neighbourhood groups can apply for the Community beautification grants to cover infrastructure like raised beds, tool sheds, or irrigation systems. You can also explore the Apply for a community grant page to see other funding streams available for community-led projects.
Community beautification grants
- Maximum funding: up to $7,500 per project
- Applicant must provide a 50% match from the community group
- Application window: March 1 to May 31 each year
- Projects must be completed and reported within 60 days of funding approval
Garden guidelines and rules
All city-managed gardens must follow the By-laws and our accessibility requirements. Gardens must provide safe, accessible pathways for wheelchairs and strollers, maintain clean and fertile soil, and include a composting area. We strongly encourage gardens to post clear signage in multiple languages and keep a notice board with plot rules and contact information. Unsanctioned gardens on city property or along the Corvid Creek Ravine are not permitted and may be reported as a by-law violation.

Our Community Garden Mentorship Programme pairs new gardeners with experienced plot holders.
