Water service shut off and reconnection

Learn how to shut off or turn back on your water supply, whether for a leak, renovation, or non-payment.

Who is responsible for your water line

The City owns the water service line from the main under the street to the curb stop. You own the line from the curb stop into your home. We do not fix leaks on your side of the curb stop, but we will shut off the water for you if you need to.

If you turn off the water at the curb stop and the leak stops, the leak is on your side of the line. You are responsible for the repairs.

Shut off the water yourself

You can shut off your own water supply if you have a City shut-off key. This works for water lines 50 mm (2 inches) or smaller.

Borrow a shut-off key

You can borrow a key for free from the administration office at Fire Station 1. Bring a photo ID when you pick it up. You must return the key within 48 hours. If you lose the key, you will be charged a $50.00 replacement fee.

Fire Station 1 (Headquarters)

210 Water Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A6

Administration: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Phone: 519-555-0115

Once you have the key, follow the steps in Using a water shut off key to turn your supply off and back on safely.

Ask a City crew to shut off or turn on the water

If your line is larger than 50 mm, or if you would rather not do it yourself, you can ask for a City crew. Only property owners can request a service call, unless it is an emergency. A dispatcher will contact you to schedule a time. Someone who can approve the fee must be on site when the crew arrives.

Call 311 (inside city limits) or 519-555-0100 to request a service call.

Service call fees

Fees are based on the scheduled time the crew attends your site. Tax is included.

Service type Days and times Cost per call
Regular Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. $175.00
After-hours and emergency Monday to Friday, 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Weekends, anytime
Statutory holidays, anytime
$350.00

The City covers the cost of repairing leaks on City property only. If a crew finds the leak is on your private side, you will be billed for the service call fee above.

Turn your water back on after non-payment

If your water was shut off because of an unpaid bill, you must pay your outstanding balance first. Once the account is current, call 519-555-0100 to request reconnection. The service will be turned back on within one business day.

For questions about your bill or payment arrangements, visit Water account inquiries and information.

How to pay

The City will mail you an invoice for any crew appointments or replacement keys. If you have questions about the charges, call the number on your invoice or visit the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall.

You can pay your invoice online, by mail, or in person at Wrenford City Hall (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
