Water service rates and fees

A clear breakdown of Wrenford's water and wastewater rates, fixed charges, and billing cycles for residents.

What your water bill covers

Your water bill pays for three essential services. These services are completely funded by the rates you pay. No money comes from your property taxes. When you pay your water bill, you are supporting the treatment of drinking water, the collection of wastewater, and the management of stormwater across the city.

Water and wastewater rates

Water rates change with the seasons to match demand and conservation goals. Wastewater rates stay the same all year. Your usage is measured in cubic metres (m³). One cubic metre equals 1,000 litres.

Service Rate When it applies
Water Treatment and Supply $3.45 per m³ May 1 to October 15
Water Treatment and Supply $2.80 per m³ November 1 to April 30
Wastewater Collection and Treatment $5.10 per m³ Year-round

How wastewater charges work

Not all the water you use goes back into the sewer system. Outdoor watering, for example, soaks into the ground. The City charges you for wastewater based on a percentage of your total water use. This keeps things fair for everyone. You pay for the infrastructure that collects and treats the water you send back to the treatment plant.

Fixed monthly charges

Along with your usage, your bill includes fixed charges that cover meter reading, billing, fire protection, and system maintenance. These charges do not change based on how much water you use.

Charge Amount Frequency
Stormwater Management $12.50 Per billing cycle (every two months)
Meter Service Charge $8.50 Per billing cycle (every two months)

Your billing cycle

The City reads your water meter every two months. Your bill will list the number of days in that billing period. You will see your previous meter reading, your current reading, and the total water you used. If the City cannot read your meter, we will estimate your usage based on past bills. We will adjust your next bill when an actual reading is taken.

High water usage

If your bill is much higher than usual, you likely have an undetected leak. A running toilet or a dripping pipe can waste a lot of water and money. Check your fixtures and look for wet spots in your yard. If you cannot find the cause, contact us. We can review your usage patterns to help you troubleshoot.

How to pay

You can pay your water bill online through the Service Wrenford portal, by mail, or in person at Wrenford City Hall. If you prefer to split your bimonthly bills into monthly payments, you can join the pre-authorized billing instalment plan. This plan charges your bank account automatically each month. You can also switch to a budget billing plan, which equalizes your yearly water costs into steady monthly payments.
