What you can do
You can ask the City to install a stop sign at an intersection where one does not already exist. The Traffic Section reviews every request based on Ontario traffic engineering standards. We do not install stop signs just to slow traffic on residential streets or for personal convenience. A stop sign must meet specific traffic warrants to keep drivers safe and moving.
How to submit a request
Please complete the Stop Sign Installation Request Form. You will need to provide the exact intersection address, your contact information, and a brief explanation of why the sign is needed.
You can also:
- Call 311 if you are inside city limits, or 519-555-0100 from outside
- Visit the Roads & Winter Maintenance desk in Room 101 at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street
Rules, fees, and timelines
Once we receive your request, the Traffic Section checks the data. If the existing data is enough, they make a decision within four to six weeks. If the numbers are close to the limit or if the situation is complex, they may run a short traffic count. This can take an extra two to four weeks.
We use a traffic study to decide if a stop sign is needed. The study looks at:
- Daily traffic volume on the street where you are asking for the sign
- Traffic volume on the cross street
- Speed of vehicles on both streets
- Number of collisions in the last 12 months
- Number of pedestrians or cyclists who cross the street
- Sight lines and visibility for drivers
If the numbers meet the provincial warrant, we will install the sign. If they do not, we may look at other traffic calming options instead. The City covers the full cost of installation when a request is approved. If it is denied, the letter explains why and suggests next steps.
