What is the Wrenford Tax Instalment Plan?
The Wrenford Tax Instalment Plan (WTIP) lets you pay your annual property tax bill in 12 equal monthly payments. Instead of paying the full amount on the last business day of June and September, you can spread the cost over the calendar year. Payments are taken directly from your bank account on the last business day of each month.
How to join
You can join the WTIP online, by phone, or in person. You must enrol before your tax bill is mailed in January to avoid interest charges on the first instalment.
- Online: Log in to your property tax account. Select the WTIP option and enter your banking details.
- By phone: Call 311 if you are inside city limits, or 519-555-0100 from outside. A revenue officer will guide you through the form.
- In person: Visit the Customer Service counter at 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1. Bring a voided cheque or your financial institution's pre-authorization form.
How payments work
Once you enrol, the City will calculate your monthly amount by dividing your total tax bill by 12. The first payment will cover all months from January to the month you enrol, plus any unpaid taxes from previous years. A small one-time administration fee is added to your first withdrawal.
If your property tax bill changes after you enrol, your monthly instalments will be adjusted automatically. You will see the new amount on your next statement.
Fees and penalties
The WTIP helps you avoid late payment penalties. If you miss a payment or your bank account does not have enough funds, a 2 per cent monthly penalty rate applies to the unpaid balance. You will also be charged a $3.50 third-party processor fee if you choose to pay a missed instalment by credit card.
Always keep enough money in your account before the withdrawal date. The City does not send reminders for each monthly withdrawal.
Cancel or change your plan
If you no longer need the WTIP, you can cancel it online through your property tax account. You must submit a cancellation request before the 22nd of the month preceding the next scheduled payment. If you cancel after that date, the next instalment will still be withdrawn.
When you cancel, your final tax bill becomes due immediately. You must pay the full remaining balance by the regular deadline to avoid penalties.
Frequently asked questions
Can I join the plan if I filed an assessment complaint?
Yes. You must pay the amount shown on your tax bill by the deadline, even if you disagree with the assessed value. Joining the WTIP spreads that amount over 12 months. If your complaint is successful and your assessment is lowered under the Assessment Review Board Act, 2019, the City will credit any overpayment to your account or refund the difference.
What happens if I sell my property?
When you sell a property, the WTIP stays with the property, not the person. The new owner must either join the plan or pay the remaining balance in full. Make sure to inform the City of the change of ownership so your account is closed.
Can I pay a missed instalment with a cheque?
Yes. If a monthly withdrawal fails, you can pay the missed amount by mail or in person. Use the roll number from your tax bill and mark the payment as a WTIP instalment. Do not send cash by mail.
