Privacy policy for residents

Learn how the City collects, protects and shares your personal information under provincial law.

Our commitment to your privacy

The City of Wrenford knows that your personal information is important. We collect, use and share it only when we have a good reason to do so, and we keep it safe. We follow the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), which is the provincial law that covers how public services in Ontario handle personal details.

What counts as personal information?

Personal information is any recorded detail that can identify you. This includes obvious things like your name, home address, phone number and date of birth. It can also include information that, when put together with other details, could point back to you.

How we collect your information

We collect information only when you need a City service or programme. For example, when you apply for a building permit, register for a recreation programme, pay a parking ticket or call 311. We tell you why we are collecting your information at the time we ask for it. You will see a collection notice on forms or in emails.

How we use and share your information

We use your information only to do the job we asked for. We might share it with other City departments so they can help you, or with outside groups like Tamsin Valley Public Health or the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority when a service requires it. We will not sell your information or give it to private companies for marketing.

We may also share information if the law requires it, such as when we respond to a lawful request from the Wrenford Police Service for an investigation. We only share what is strictly necessary.

Keeping your information secure

We store your data in secure systems with access limited to staff who need it. We review the information we hold regularly and remove it when it is no longer needed for a business purpose or when the law allows us to destroy it. If you have questions about how your data is stored, you can contact our privacy team.

Complaints and concerns

If you think we have handled your personal information incorrectly, or if you want to know what we have on file about you, start by contacting the Access and Privacy team. We will look into your concern and reply within thirty business days. If you are not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for Ontario.

Web cookies and tracking

Our website uses small files called cookies to help us see how people use the site. These cookies do not collect your name, address or email. They only track things like the pages you visit and how long you stay. You can turn off cookies in your web browser at any time, though some site features may work better if you leave them on.
