Smoking regulation bylaws

Learn where smoking and vaping are prohibited in Wrenford, how to report violations, and what fines apply.

Where smoking and vaping are not allowed

Wrenford wants clean, safe air for everyone. The Smoking Regulation By-law 2017-098 makes it against the rules to smoke or vape in many public places. These rules apply to residents and visitors alike. You will help keep our city healthy and comfortable by following these guidelines.

Prohibited areas

You cannot smoke or vape in the following places:

  • Public parks, including Centennial Gardens, Riverside Flats Park, and Ambrel Lake Park
  • Playgrounds and splash pads, like the one at Wildrye Park
  • Outdoor skating rinks and sports fields
  • Transit terminals, including the Downtown Transit Terminal
  • Enclosed public buildings, such as Wrenford City Hall and the Wrenford Public Library branches
  • Workplaces, unless in a private residence or a designated outdoor area away from entrances
  • Within five metres of any entrance, exit, or window of a public building

Rules for vehicles and private property

Smoking and vaping are also not allowed in any public vehicle, like a Wrenford Transit bus or a taxi. If you are in your own personal vehicle inside a park, you must still follow the park boundaries rule. You cannot smoke in vehicles parked inside park limits. This keeps our parks free of cigarette litter and protects people who do not smoke.

How to report a violation

If you see someone smoking or vaping where it is not allowed, you can report it. Our by-law officers work hard to keep our spaces clean and safe. You can:

  • Email the By-law Enforcement team at [email protected]
  • Call the main line at 519-555-0100 and ask for a by-law officer
  • Use the Service Wrenford 311 app or website to submit a report

Please share the location and time of the incident. You do not have to give your name, but it helps our officers respond quickly.

Fines and penalties

Breaking the Smoking Regulation By-law carries a fine. A first offence costs $150.00. Repeat offences will cost more. These fines help cover the cost of cleaning up cigarette waste and funding public health education.
