What you can do to comply
Under the Noise By-law 2016-122, you have the right to enjoy your home without unreasonable noise, and you have the responsibility to keep noise down for your neighbours. This by-law applies to residential streets, commercial areas, and public parks across the City of Wrenford. Our goal is to balance everyday life with the need for peace and quiet.

Quiet hours run from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. every night. During this time, you must avoid unreasonably loud or excessive noise. You should keep music, conversations, and outdoor activities at a volume that does not travel beyond your property line. Windows and doors should be closed to contain sound.
Outside of quiet hours, construction, demolition, and the use of power tools are restricted to:
- Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Sunday and statutory holidays: No construction or power tool use is permitted.
Lawn mowers and leaf blowers follow the same Saturday and Sunday rules. If you are doing minor repairs that create short bursts of noise, the by-law allows some flexibility, but you should still be mindful of neighbours. Continuous barking or howling from pets is also a violation, so please supervise your animals when they are outside.
How to request an exemption
If you are planning a private gathering, a community festival, or a construction project that must go past the allowed hours, you can apply for a noise exemption permit. These permits are reviewed by City Council or the relevant committee, and applicants must notify neighbours in advance. Major public events, like Canada Day in the Park, are covered under separate event permits managed by the Recreation & Culture department.
How to report a violation
If you are being disturbed by noise, try speaking to your neighbour first. Most issues are resolved quickly through a friendly conversation. If the issue continues, you can report it to the By-law Enforcement team or the Wrenford Police Service for emergencies. You can also use our Service Alerts page to log ongoing issues.
Vehicle noise is handled under the Highway Traffic Act and our Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075. Any vehicle in motion that emits excessive exhaust noise or causes a loud backfire is considered a violation. Revving an engine in a parking lot or playing music so loud it can be heard down the street is also prohibited.
Fees and fines
Violations can result in fines starting at $100.00 for a first offence and $250.00 for a second offence. By-law officers may issue tickets directly or refer the matter to the Provincial Offences Court for adjudication. Paying your ticket promptly avoids additional collection fees.
